Work on Paper

Ever a source of inspiration as well as a practical resource, works on paper are often a seminal part of an artist’s practice. They can be the test site of an idea or composition that will make it into a future artwork in a different medium, or the final destination in themselves. Zabludowicz Collection is lucky enough to own archival materials that relate to a number of our larger commissions and installations. Often these works on paper do not make it into the exhibition, and are therefore rarely seen by the public, but their vitality is undeniable.

There are important stand-alone works on paper in the Collection, ranging from a representational drawing by David Haines, to prints by Glenn Ligon, and unique material experiments by Sigmar Polke. Collage is central to the practices of many leading artists who seek to reconfigure the existing material of the world around us, including the likes of John Stezaker and Linder. And over recent years the contemporary relevance of drawing and printmaking has been evidenced in the work of younger artists such as Ebecho Muslimova and Alvaro Barrington.
