A flying visit to New York for a whistle-stop run through the new shows

Then it was straight to Hauser and Wirth to see Matthew Day Jackson’s controversial new show. There were some masterpieces to be seen for sure!
Matthew as well as being serious, usually shows a great sense of humour and theatre in his work and this was certainly apparent.
Then it was off to Chris Burden at the New Museum where the lovely Stefan Edlis and Gael Neeson posed in front of this suspended car. Stefan was reflecting on his time when he actually drove this car around L.A.
The car was suspended by just this little rock.
Elad Lassry at 303 Gallery was such a good example of photography moving forward.
Barry McGee was showing at Cheim & Read and whilst we do not collect his work it thankfully never stops me from liking it.
William Pope.L at Mitchell-Innes & Nash was addressing colour as usual with ‘Coloured Waiting Room.’ I loved his choice of pink!
Then at Greene Naftali’s, ‘Some Dreamers of the Golden Dream’ was a divine combination of Lutz Bacher’s, who’s also showing at the ICA, London, ‘Reflex yellow’ and Alex Israel’s ‘Sky Backdrop’
The biggest surprise might have been Jonas Wood at Anton Kern as I had always found his work rather bland but suddenly there was power and energy! NYC provided some great shows so I was looking forward to what L.A. had to offer next!
