Armory Week: Part Two

26 March 2019

It was an interesting couple of days!

Armory Week: Part Two
I finally made it to Spring Break where there was much to see. Alison Jackson was out there seeing how far she could go, using actors to play the part of famous people in embarrassing situations
Armory Week: Part Two
We very much enjoyed the work of Jeremy Olson at Coral Projects, mysterious and mystical
Armory Week: Part Two
His sculptures were meticulous and very interesting. Definitely an artist to watch
Armory Week: Part Two
My favourite work, by Shona McAndrew was ambitious and brave. ‘Sometime Last Night’, curated by Lauren Powell and crafted in papier-mâché
Armory Week: Part Two
Her paintings were very cool, also made out of papier-mâché and paint
Armory Week: Part Two
In the evening we went to Angel Otero’s ‘Milagro’ opening at Lehmann Maupin, he created some large tapestry type oil paintings
Armory Week: Part Two
Rachel Lehmann gave a lovely dinner for Angel
Armory Week: Part Two
We loved Ghislaine Leung’s ‘Power Relations’ at Essex Street. Walking into a crisp white walled gallery with doors painted black and melodic music in the background. A stark group of street lights that can be charged at any time. The work is called ‘Flags, Toons, Commonwealth, Domain, Empire, Estate, Kingdom, Nation and Realm’
Armory Week: Part Two
At Rachel Uffner Gallery the work of Arcmanoro Niles was brilliant, the show is called ‘My Heart is Like Paper: Let the Old Ways Die’
Armory Week: Part Two
Arcmanoro in front of one his works whose subject matters he describes as his friends
Armory Week: Part Two
I had time to visit Soho House where artist Tyler Shields was interviewed about his spectacular photography
Armory Week: Part Two
The highlight of my trip was visiting Austin Lee at Jeffery Deitch. It was so wonderful to bump into Marilyn Minter, his past and proud tutor, with Chloe Wise
Armory Week: Part Two
His happy painting
Armory Week: Part Two
Mystified by the work of Jasper Spicero at Swiss Institute called ‘Centinel’. ‘Look Up For Edith’, folding chair with wooden inlay and bird. The work was based on a friend who passed away and Jasper found his collection of music and poetry. Following his Time Square Space show with Tif Zab he had used some of his past themes, family trauma, addiction and the military
Armory Week: Part Two
More folding chairs and birds. It was lovely to walk around with Simon Castets and Andrew Alexander and view the new and exciting space
Armory Week: Part Two
It was great to visit Matt Copson’s new show at Reena Spaulings Fine Art
